Getting started

WE’re working on building A STRONG FOUNDATION

An image of the Grand Canyon. It is very hazy, and most of the land looks like silhouettes. The sky is very desaturated, with the sun shining brightly in frame, resulting in sun spots coming down in a line.

starting a nonprofit is no flick of a switch! as our team currently consists of one person (with an infant!), progress has been slow. I’ve been doing my research the best i can as i go along to make sure everything is done right, but there are things i can’t get ready, yet. not without help.

firstly, we need more decision makers. A nonprofit is most successful with a diverse board of directors deciding what the best way to steer the ship is. having people to help run the ship is important too. board members help make decisions such as mission statement, rules and regulations, wages for potential employees, plans of action, and whatever else is needed. this helps keep things fair and ensure the organization is Fulfilling its purpose as a place of service to the community. board members need to understand the importance of inclusivity and critical thinking, and be willing to commit to monthly board meetings.

we want to be able to host events, showcases, and classes, all of which require a physical location, funding, and volunteers. we also need people with diverse experiences to help audit aspects of the nonprofit to help ensure we’re inclusive and accessible to as wide a variety of people as possible.

And although we do not have tax exempt status under 501(c)(3), that is the goal. Thus, decisions by the board and actions taken by this organization must abide by or work towards the requirements outlined by the iRS.
